In this making of I will show you my way of working and I will tell you something about the progress and some techniques that I used for the image. I created the image with 3dsmax, Vray and photoshop. I hope that it will be useful to you.

Introduction

Last summer I was with a friend of mine on a holiday on the island Rhodos, Greece. I was never been there before and I must say, it’s a beautiful island. Great nature and of course typical Greece architecture. No matter where I am, I am always looking around me to absurd everything I see. It’s a non stop progress. Do I see something what I can use for any project at home? And at some point in my vacation there it was. A nice building on top of a hill. It was not only the building but the environment and the lighting that inspired me. I liked it, maybe you don’t but that’s okay. So at that point I decided to take pictures of the building so I could study them at home. Normally I always do a lot of research on the Internet but now I had already the pictures I needed so I could skip that part.

Tutorial: Killer 3D Poster Design with 3DS Max & Photoshop

2D Graphics

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

Photoshop

3d max

Tutorial: Killer 3D Poster Design with 3DS Max & Photoshop

Hello again! I was recently asked to do a flyer for a promotions company by the name of inFamous Productions; a very popular promotion movement in Western NY mainly stationed in Buffalo.

My main objective was to create something unique that would serve as a creative campaign for a nightclub. Long story short, one thing led to another, and I came up with a poster which led to the flyer design. For this tutorial I will be teaching you guys and letting you all get ahold of the process in which I used to create this Galactic Title in Photoshop.

The tutorial will be 80% Photoshop intensive and 20% 3DS Max. Somethings to keep in mind are: 3D letters can be made in any program, be it Adobe Illustrator, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Xara 3D, Photoshop, etc. The great thing about this technique is that it can be translated into any 3D generating software.

I will shed light on the basics of lighting, mapping and Render Setup in the robust package that Autodesk has to offer. I don’t want this to predominantly be a 3D tutorial, thus I will not go into extensive detail on everything I do. Feel free to shoot me an email at fmartin9@naz.edu if you have any questions and or concerns. I can also point you into the right direction if you are interested in pursuing a design career in 3D.

Guitar At Construction Site

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

Render

3d

3d max

Guitar At Construction Site

Software Used: Modo, 3ds Max, Maxwell Render and Photoshop

Introduction:

This is an old project that I started about a year ago and only finished recently, because my free time kept getting interrupted.

Concept:

When I started this project, I didn’t have an exact concept for what the final image would look like. The Modeling comes third in this kind of scene (a general view with no particular details).

Planning

For this project I wanted as much historical accuracy as I could get. So, like always, when I start a new project I googled “Babylon” and looked for images. Here’s what I came up with:

Making Of Vantage at Dusk

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

Render

3d

3d max

Making Of Vantage at Dusk

Research:

As with any project of this nature, the key to a realistic model is proper research and a decent set of blueprints. Having sourced the blueprints, I soon discovered that (as usual) there were certain discrepancies between the different angles represented on the blueprints. However, this was unavoidable as the angles were sourced from different locations and traced from different perspectives and photos.

Seeing as the side elevation had the most detail and was of a decent size, I decided to use this view as gospel and tweak the remaining ones accordingly. In doing so I ended up with a set of blueprints that lined up in all the important places and that I hoped would produce a final model with the correct amount of headlights and so fourth.

Speeding up Renders in 3ds Max

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

Render

3d

3d max

Speeding up Renders in 3ds Max

Introduction:

3ds Max renders are pretty high quality, by default. In many cases, this is slowing you down because you don’t need high quality when taking test renders to check your lighting or modeling progress. These seven steps will guide you through how to set up 3ds Max to optimize render times without compromising too much quality. While these tips will save you a little time in the short run, they’ll save you hours as you speed up your workflow!

With seven techniques in all, I had to break this into two videos. In the first one, we’ll look at the first four tricks: render size, render area, lighting quality, and sampling quality. In the second video, there are three more tricks to learn: polygon counts, pre-computed lighting, and material substitution.

Be sure to drop by my homepage sometime where you’ll find the rest of my “Monday Movies”, as well as tons of 3ds Max tutorials, resources, and downloads.

Source : http://www.3dtotal.com

Making of Mr Froggy

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

3d max

Making of Mr Froggy

3ds Max, ZBrush & Photoshop

Hello!

My name is Darko Vucenik and I am a 3D artist and illustrator from Croatia. This is a project overview for my image “Mister Froggy”. I created this image purely for fun.

Mister Froggy started, as most of my ideas do, with a few simple sketches . At first Froggy wasn`t a frog; I don`t know exactly what he was. Some sort of bug, perhaps. These sketches were very little; they were sort of thumbnails that I did very quickly, just to put the rough ideas from my head on paper. At first I imagined a cartoony bug hanging on to a small plant. With a second sketch I focused a bit more on the character and with a third I added an old tree stump as the focus of his environment.

Making of Zero

3D Graphics

3D tutorials

3d

3d max

Making of Zero

Software Used :

3dsmax 2009, V-Ray, Photoshop CS3.

Introduction :

Hello everyone! My name is Marcos Nicacio, I currently work at Best-CG as a character designer, modeler and animator and I’d like to share the creation process behind my most recent job.

Inspiration & Refrences :

Since being a kid, I’ve always liked to play video games – particularly the Mega Man series. In the Mega Man X game, a character suddenly appeared who was different from the kinds of character I was accustomed to seeing in the previous games. His name was Zero, he had long blond hair, a light sword and he looked more like a villain than a good guy. I thought his design was great and very audacious and from that point onwards, I became a huge fan of his character and started to play only as Zero whenever I could.

Nowadays, I’ve chosen to make a high-end, fan art version of the character, as I’ve never seen before in any games of the series.

To make the character as I wanted, the first step was to gather references that I could use to hit on the right proportions because during the game series, Zero had different heights and designs. It is, however, also one of the most complex and daunting 3d apps to learn. In this two part tutorial series, professional video game artist, Kaleb Aylsworth, will give you a detailed introduction to 3ds Max, as it pertains to polygonal modeling and the video game industry.

An Introduction to 3ds Max: Polygonal Modeling – Day 2

In the first part of the series, professional video game artist, Kaleb Aylsworth, walked you through many of the key skills that you will need to get started modeling in 3ds Max. Now, in the second part, he will demonstrate how to apply the things that you have learned by using them to make a low-poly version of Guy van der Walt’s “Retro TV Set”. The engineering of F1 cars and aircrafts is also something that always blows me away, so I wanted to try and develop something that would blend the two areas together somehow.

The design started as a really low-poly blockout that I made in my lunch break at work (using 3ds Max). I was literally just messing around with primitive shapes and modifiers such as bend, taper and twist.

The great thing with these modifiers and others is that they are non-destructive and constantly adjustable. With a little care and attention, nice simple and clean forms can be made and then copied and adjusted even further. Throw lots of shapes into loose combinations and its possible to get some nice 3D thumbnails.

A good way to play with this is to make a simple shape such as a cylinder and play with the modifiers in the stack, changing their hierarchy and adjusting the original primitive specs such as size and segments on the go.

Once I started playing with the shapes and volumes, I came up with a file full of subtle variations. My focus at this point was to keep the spherical wheels as dominant as possible.
